Showing my video at K factor

In school we have an event called K-factor which is a talent contest. Our music videos were shown at the beginning of the event and I asked some audience members for there thoughts and all the comments were positive, most people said that they didn't think it was students work because they looked so professional.

Putting tasks onto DVD

Today I put all my project so the two ancillary tasks and my main task onto a dvd using idvd. This is so that it can be sent of to the examiner to view.

Finishing editing

I finished editing my final products and now I need to export them with quicktime so that it can then be put onto my dvd.

Editing

During lessons i have been editing my music video together. I have used a range of different techniques whe editing a new technique which i used was changing the opacity of some shots so they could be seen over the top of others.

Filming harry

on thursday i filmed harry and his guitar then in the lesson i uploaded the footage using imovie so that i could insert into final cut to be edited.

Staying behind after school and during lessons

For the past 2 weeks in lessons i have been editing the footage which i have into my music video. I also stayed behind last night to do some more editing.

Here what I tried to do was have the candles with all 7 of them on screen at once so they all came on one after another but this didn't work
So i tried it with eyes and then tinting them to be different colours but i didnt think this fitted in with my video.
Then i edited in some more of dance sequence which i really like and the majority of my video is going to be.
this was the water droplets which i re filmed. they are in more focus now and look so much better than the first time i did them. what i did was i tinted them to a purple colour because that is the colour scheme which i have used the whole way through in my digipak and music magazine.
This is the ending of my music magazine and what i did was placed the water droplet over the top of the dance sequence and just changed the opacity so you could see both.

uploading footage to the mac's

After i filmed at home i then uploaded my footage onto the mac's. I came into the next day and during form i came to the mac room and plugged the camera in so that my footage would have been uploaded ready for the lesson period 3.

12/3/12 Filming at home one evening

This evening I re filmed one part of my footage to make sure it was in focus this went well and looks 10 times better than the first filming. I also then did some filming with some candels i hope this will look good once i upload it onto the macs.

filming harry

I have scheduled to film Harry on thursday after school this is because we have had to postpone filming him until now due to family matters. For this filming i will need to make sure that Harry has all his guitars ready and knows what hes doing.

Rescheduling filming

I was ment to film Steph on Sunday but she was ill so we are going to film on tuesday now during the lesson.

7th March

In todays lesson I went through my footage and got a copy of the lyrics and i went through and wrote dow which parts i still needed footage for. I have planned to do some of this filming on Sunday with Stephanie. The scenes i will film will be of Steph sitting on a sofa changing where shes sitting lip synching and i am also going to ask Harry if he is free to do some filming. over ht eweekend i will also do the bit of th ewater droplet as i didnt get a chance to do that the other day.

arranging to film

I have arranged to film some footage this weekend that will be used to go behind the lyrics which i put into my footage. I have also got to re film some bits because when i uploaded them onto the computer they were out of focus.

Practicing with live type

On live type I started trying to practice how to use it. So what i did was i added some text which was 'sometimes its hard to follow your heart'. What i did was i entered the text in two parts so i could over lap them and then put an effect on each so it would fade in with the music and then fade out again. I then added a background and changed the colour but im thinking instead of having a background thats still im going to get some footage to put behind the text whixh i add in.
I then did another set of lyrics and this time i didnt have them on a background so it would be transparent over my footage i also changed the angle at which the text sat to give it a bit more softer effect.

I then exported this text so i could use it in final cut. I dragged it over the piece of footage i wanted it to be over and this is what i got.

Editing so far

Here I was overlapping bits of footage so i would be able to put two or more pieces of footage on one screen.

So here you can see at one point i had three bits of footage on one screen.

I then used the crop tool to crop each piece of footage so you could see them all and then i could move them around.

Thsi is just my footage which I have edited at the minute.

Editing postponed

At school the mac i work on broke so i could'nt do any editing for a couple of days.

Magazine advertisement 2

First of all I started of with this image which i captured after i had started putting my video together. Its made by using the mirrored effect on final cut. I opened this in photoshop ready to edit.
I then changed the brightness and contrast of the image so the white t-shirt really stood out from the black back ground I think it makes it look really sharp and eye catching.

Then I added some text the title of the album and the artists name, i changed the colour to white so it stands out on the black background meaning it will catch the audiences attention, also i think the black and white makes it look quite sophisticated.

The next step was to add my CD digipack front cover image to the advertisement the reason for this is that it means it is showing the product it is advertising. Also means that people can see what it looks like so if they go into a shop and see it they will buy it.

I then added more text including 'Debut album', the artists website and record label. You can see that i also changed the position of the cd digipack picture the reason for this is i am playing with the rule of 3rds as you can see it is now 1/3 down the page this is because this is at eye level and the most eye catching part of the page.

I then wanted to have more images on it so i could fill some of the blank background so i took two pictures from my music video and turned their shadows purple to go with the theme of the cd digipak. I then changed the opacity of these pictures and put them into the background of my advertisement at the top.

Practicing with Live Type

In todays lesson I started playing around with Live Type, I did this because im planning on using it to put some lyrics into my music video. The first thing i did was i added the text i wanted to come up on screen. then i changed the font, size and colour.
Then what i did was i added effects of how the text comes in. This will mean that when i actually do it for real it will come in in time with the music instead of being static on the screen.
Then i added an effect for the text to exit to which also made it exit with the music.

Editing my main task in lessons

In the lessons i have been editing my main task. This is what i've done so far.

I have used the footage of Taylor dancing for the begging bit and ive added effects so that when it changes from one shot to another it runs smoothly. I have also used the dance sequence for part of the chorus, for this i used the same piece of footage and copied it 3 times one after another. I also used slow motion on it so it is at half speed and gives it the effect i was aiming for. The cuts are ment to be in time to the beat of the music. Some of which are but some still need a bit more work.

My Music Magazine Advertisement

Over the past 4 weeks I have been editing my music magazine advertisement. This is the process of how I created it.


First of all i started with the image which i previously used in my CD digipak of Steph looking straight at the cmera with a straight looking face not smiling just looking normal. I chose this image because you dont see many female artist that will look directly at the camera but I felt that with this song it needed for the audience to see the eyes and face in order to connect to what were trying to promote because it mean they can see the emotion in the artist.



The second thing I did was I turned the image from colour to black and white the main reason for this was because Steph had changed her hair colour from red to black so I didnt want her hair to be red on here but then brown in my video but I also changed it to black and white because when I first chose my song I just felt that the colour scheme black and white with a bit of purple would work well so I have kept that theme the whole way through.


I then used the magnetic lasso tool to go around the edges of Steph and I feathered her by 5. This will give it a nice smooth edge when I put it into my music magazine advertisement. Then I dragged it over to the photoshop page which id set up ready to A4 and landscape.



Then once id put that onto the page I started to enter the text. I started by entering the artists name Jessie.J and the title of the album Who You Are. I then changed the colour to purple because this is the colour scheme im working with and then I wanted them to be wavy instead of straight so i went onto the text layout button and chose flag which gives it that shape which looks like a flag blowing in the wind.



Then once id added the main text I then added debut album because its her first album she's released and OUT NOW in capitals so it stamds and make people aware its out now so they can go buy it. I decided on keeping these purple but I changed the shade of purple so it was different from the title and artists name because they are less important.



The next stage was inserting a picture of the front cover of my CD digipak. The idea of this being on the advertisement is so that people know what they are looking for when they go to buy it and they look at the CD digipak and think that looks interesting. I also inserted it because it shows that the colour scheme is consistant all the way through.

I then changed the OUT NOW text to a differnet font than the rest so it would stand out nice and clear and catch people's attention.


I then thought it looked abit plain with a white background so I used the gradient fill tool which made the left hand corner turn purple and gets lighter as it goes across the page. I like it because its not to in your face but it just gives it that edge that wil catch the readers eye.
I also added at the bottom the artists website so that if people saw this advert and were like I like this but who is it then they could look at her website and find out abit about her before going out and buying her album.


Then the final things I had to do was to use the rubber and change the shape of it to a star to give the ratings of various newspapers. I like this because it only gives an outline if a star. The reason for putting ratings on the advertisement is so it shows the viewer what people think about the CD and it may help people decide to buy it because if the ratings are good there more likely to buy it than they are if the ratings are rubbish or not on there at all. In the bottom left corner I also added a lyric from the song 'Who You Are' which is the title of the album aswell, I chose this lyric because it sums up in one line what the album is about and what my artist Jessie.J is all about.

I had organised to film with Steph in the week but the weather was not on my side and was not suitable to film in. So this will have to be rescheduled.

Lesson 5th January Editing main task

In todays lesson I continued to play around with my main task. By taking the dance sequence and deciding which bits will best fit certain places. I also used some effects and slow motion to see weather it would look good or not and it did so it is something that I will keep in there

My three main tasks to complete in the next few weeks

For the next few weeks I am setting myself three tasks which I will concentrate on getting completed. These three tasks are going to be;
1. Filming Harry playing his guitar
2. Filming Steph doing her lip synching
3. Keep blogging every time I do some editing

Lesson 4th January starting to edit my main task

In todays lesson I decided to start editing the footage which I have which is the dance sequence of Taylor. What i started to do is to play around with the footage working out which bits fit best where in the song because I filmed it differently to what I first planned.

During the christmas holiday's

During the christmas holidays because I cant access my blog from home I decided I would do some more research into the work that goes in to creating a music video. So I went onto youtube and watched some video's of artists that fit into the same genre as mine and looked at there videos of behind the scene's. One of them which I looked at was The Saturdays 'Notorious' from this video what I found out was that it is sometimes easy to film in a different order to what it ends up being in the final video. Also a technique which the director used was playing the song in slow motion and getting the artists to lip synch and dance in slow motion. What this does is when it comes to editing you can put the track back to full speed and make the footage faster to match the music and it makes the finished product sharper and snappy, in this video it was used in a good way because the track is a dance track. This technique also helps in making the artist lip synching in time to the music.
