Filming timeline

In today's lesson i started creating a timeline of when and what i'm going to film and the times when im going to film. I have decided that i have three different sections with in my music video and i'm going to film these three sections on separate dates. This is so i can get a good half our to an hour with each section and each cast member.

Lip synching

Today i am going to practice lip synching. This will give me the practice i need to make my music video look more professional. With the practice i will gain more knowledge and understanding of how to match lip synching to the music. I have never done lip syncing before so because i am going to be using lip syncing in my video i thought it would be a good idea to do some practice filming and editing of lip syncing.

Considering the Mise-en-scene for my Music Video

Mise-en-scene

Props-

I will need a guitar for Harry Wilkinson to play and im going to be using his guitar with his amp. They look similar to these

Clothing-

For my main artist i will have her in clothes that Jessie J would wear but will alter them to make them unique so there not copied. Clothes that reflect the union jack maybe an idea as she is flying the flag for Britain in America. I also want there to be some chlothes with big meanings on that relate to the song so maybe a t-shirt with 'Dont lose who you in the blur of the stars' maybe an idea. For the accessories i need a watch which stands out a necklace that stands out and some rings which catch the attention of audiences.
For my guitarist i want him in smart but casual clothes so maybe a smart pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a scarf.

For my contemparory dancer i want her to be wearing black leggins and a white t-shirt to make her stand out from the dark.

Make-up-

My artist Stephanie will have quite plain make-up because then it will go with every outfit.

Casting and Locations

Casting
For my music video i need one main person who will be acting as the artist. I have decided to cast Stephanie Smith as my artist, i chosen Stephanie because one she's female and two i think she can act the part really well as she has the same personality and taste as i want my artist to have.
For the part of the guitarist i have decided to cast Harry Wilkinson. I chose him because one he is male and i wanted a male guitarist, two he can play the guitar and three he has tthe look and personality that i would like my guitarist to have when he's performing in my video, he is very fun and energetic but can also be very composed and mature.

In my video i also have a dance sequence. For this i have already cast a dancer. The dancer in my video will be played by Taylor Kerly she has came up with a dance routine that she will be performing in parts of my video. I decided to chose Taylor because she does contemporary dance and also does street dance and i think she could bring something to my video that nobody else could, she can connect to the song and show that through her dance moves.

I also need 8 more people that will be holding boards up in various locations i.e place of work, school and even there homes. These people will be played by Callum Wilkie, Lucille Roberts, Harriet Nash, Jenna Wilkinson, to be announced.......

Locations

For my contemparory dance scene i will film it in the school drama hall. Ive chosen this location because i can have it blacked out with a single spotlight to make the dance have more meaning and emotion.

With my artist i will have her walking down the street at various times in the video i plan to do these scences on either avondale road, Almond road or Weekly glebe road. I have chosen these locations because they are all very similar and the roads near them are busy but not too busy so it will give it a sense of reality.

For my solo guitarist part i will have Harry play his guitar inside a normal house to also show reality.

Story Boards for my Music Video

Lyrics to my Song Choice

I stare at my reflection in the mirror...
Why am I doing this to myself?
Losing my mind on a tiny error,
I nearly left the real me on the shelf...
"no, no, no, no..."

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay...
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are!
(Who you are)x11

Brushing my hair, do I look perfect?
I forgot what to do to fit the mold, yeah!
The more I try the less is working yeah yeah yeah
'Cause everything inside me screams, "no, no, no, no..."

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay...
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are!

Yes?, no's, egos, fake shows
Like "wow", just go, and leave me alone!
Real talk, real life, good love, goodnight,
With a smile...
That's my home! (that is my home) "no, no, no, no..."

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay...
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are!

Yeah yeah yeah

How hip hop changed the world

During the summer holidays I watched a documentary on tele called how hip hop changed the world on channel 4. It basically told me that hip hop started in America in a place called the Bronx in the 1970’s. It also goes through thing s that link into hip hop like graffiti which has been used in marketing products and even just recently in the form of the London Olympics logo it is in its self graffiti. It was chosen to bring the younger generation in. Also with the Olympic official torch rally single being sung by one of the Biggest British Hip hop rap artist Tinchy Stryder. It talks about how hip hop over years has dominated the way in which we think dress and even do things nowadays.
The bit that interested me was when it talked about how hip hop originated in America but the British have bought it over here and put their own twist on it and then have taken it back over to America and Americans have done the same. It’s only been recently that we have had our own culture and stopped imitating the Americans but we can now say we have our own style this is partly to do with the N-dubz, Tinchy Stryder, Tinie Tempa and Chipmunk.
It then goes on how dance gets involved with hip hop and it actual started in London Covent garden’s where kids would go after school with their radios or whatever and start dancing and having dance off’s. Which then leads into street dance and groups like diversity and flawless.

Look back at treatment questionnaire

Having looked back at the answers given back from my treatment questionnaire there are maybe some bits that I will reconsider but overall I am really happy with the response and I hope it will all work out.

Getting feedback of my treatment

Analysis of questionnaire

Do you know Jessie J?
I asked 10 people altogether and 8 people said yes they had heard of her but 2 people said they hadn’t. This gives me an indication that I have chosen the correct target audience for my video as more than half have heard of her so I am talking to the majority of the right people.
Have you heard Jessie J’s song ‘Who you are’?
I asked 10 people and 6 people had and 4 people hadn’t. This was expectable as ‘who you are isn’t a single yet it is only a song of her album so I wouldn’t expect everyone to have heard it unless they have the album.
Have you ever seen a Jessie J video?
8 people came back saying yes and 2 people came back saying no which I expected as at the beginning there was 2 people that hadn’t heard of Jessie J. I then further asked if yes what’s your take on them. Some of the comments I got back were as follows; there very different, creative, unique, bold, the message of the song is delivered, amusing and eye catching. These comments are all positive so I can say that Jessie makes pretty good videos. The two comments of unique and different also help me because that is partly the idea of my video for it to be different.
Do you like R&B soul music?
9 people said yes and only one person said no which tells me that Jessie J is a R&B soul singer because this is her target audience but it also tells me that there are some people of this target group that do not like her.
Would you like the video to link directly to the lyrics?
All 10 people answered yes and the comments given for why were as follows; because that is what Jessie J does, it amplifies the lyrics and the meaning of the song, reminds you of the lyrics and makes you concentrate on lyrics. These all suggest that directly linking the video with the lyrics is a positive thing and it should be done.

Target Research Questionnaire

I have created a questionnaire to ask the target audience of my video described in the post ‘considering the psychographics and demographics’ about the artist and her work. I will ask around 10 people as this will give me a good idea if I have correctly identified the target audience which I should be aiming my video to.

The Official Video for Jessie J 'Who You Are'

The Official video for ‘Who you are’
There isn’t actual a video out in the UK yet for ‘Who you are’ but there has been one released in America I’ve been told so I haven’t seen it and don’t really know what Jessie J’s take on it would be. This leaves me with space to become creative and not get compared to her own video.
