The music channel my video should appear on
I believe that my music video should appear on either MTV or up your VIVA because these are the two channels which show pop video's.

Researching music channels for my music video to appear on
I have started to research different music channels for my music video to appear on. So what i did was looked up a range of different music channels and found out abit about each one. this is what i found;

MTV is an american network based in New York City that was launched in AUGUST 1981 . MTV distibutes a variety of music video genres such as pop, rock, heavy metal, indie RnB and hip hop. Due to MTV's diverse music range it is most likely that they will show my music video. MTV also has sister channels such as MTV TWO and MTV ROCK that are less likly to show my music video.

Kerrang! is a digital television station owned by Box television, it is loosely connected to the magazine Kerrang! The Tv channels playlist mainly consists of metal and pop punk. As Kerrang distribute music videos that are in the metal and pop punk genre i would say they are the least likly to air my music video as my genre is pop/RnB.

4Music is now the home for music/celebrity orientated shows and comedies that were once shown on Channel 4. It is a mix of music and comedy. Because 4music doesnt have a certain genre which they stick to they show a variety of music genres and for this reason this is a music channel which would probally show my music video.

Viva is a 24hour music and entertainment channel that was originally launched in Germany in 1993. This music channel distrubutes indie, pop rock and pop videos. The genres fit really close to my artist so they are likly to show my music video.

I had arranged to film Stephs parts this morning but one Steph was ill and two the weather was not on my side and it was raining so I will now have to arrange another date to film these parts.
Filming The Dance
On tuesday night I filmed Taylor doing the contemporary dance for parts of my music video. Everything went according to plan we went into the drama hall and blacked it out and I used one single light which I placed on the floor and had it pointing towards Taylor and I filmed her movements through a mirror. I got different shots from different angles but made sure that I didnt cross the line.

Learning About Adobe Photoshop 6 Lesson 2
We had a second lesson with Mrs Craddock where we learnt abit more about Adobe Photoshop Elements. In this lesson we learnt how to use the lasso tool and the magnetic lasso tool and how to change the colour and saturation of images once we had cut them. I think i will use this when creating my music magazine and CD digipak because most pictures i take will have a background of some sort and i want a plain white background, so i can use this tool to cut out all the background and replace it with a plain white one.
The steps
First of all we chose an image we wanted to edit.

Then we opened it in photoshop using browse with bridge.
Once we had done this we were ready to start editing. We selected the Lasso tool where you can cut parts of the image in this case we wanted to cut the artist out. Once we cut the artist out we could then put a filter on it so i decided to do a feather filter then we cut and pasted it in to a new photoshop.

Learning to use Adobe Photoshop Elements 6

In todays lesson we had Mrs Craddock come in a teach us the basics of how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. Some of the stuff we learnt was that in this programme you can layer images on top of each other, this is good because it gives it a much more professional look. We also learnt that by layering pictures over each other means that you can make some stand out more than others meaning the main information can be seen clearly. The first thing we started with was inserting text I inserted my artists name and the title of the album. To practice we used images of the internet and layered them over each other changing the filter of each image and making them more or less transparent. I know that for my real one I cannot use images that are from somebody else at that i have to use my own images.
This is what I did during the lesson playing about with the programme and seeing all the different things i can do. I did two examples I prefer the top one and am thinking of doing something like this for my real thing.

CD Digipak
What is the history of the CD digipak?
The CD digipak is a registered trademark of AGI World Ltd since 2000. It was originally owned by IMPAC Group Inc. The CD digipak is a modern alternative to CD jewel cases. They consist of cardboard packaging with plastic trays inside that hold CD’s in place. CD digipak’s are becoming more and more popular with the music industry as they are eco friendly and also give the final product a professional look and feel through the use of specialist print finishing.
What different forms can they take?
Some of the different forms they can take are as follows;
4 panel case with 1 tray CD digipak template
4 panel case 1 tray CD digipak with inner moon cut pocket template
6 panel 1 tray CD digipak with thumbcut pocket template
6 panel 3 tray CD digipak rollfold template
8 panel 4 tray CD digipak rollfold template

what are the conventions of a CD digipak?
With most CD digipak’s the main conventions on the front cover are the title of the album or single, the artists name, an image of the artist or an image of something associated to the artist album and possibly a parent advisory sticker. They are normally quite plain with little text and more imagery.
The main conventions of the back cover of a CD digipak are the titles of all the songs on the album or single possibly with running times of each track, a barcode or serial number and the record labels label.
The spine has little on it but the main conventions are the title of the CD and a serial number.
The conventions of the inside can vary depending on the template used but for a 4 panel 1 tray template the main conventions would be on the tray side simply just an image behind the plastic and then the CD. For the opposite side it doesn’t really have any conventions because the artist can put whatever they want on this side it can range from images to thank you messages.

Lesson 24/11/11
Starting on my CD digipak. In todays lesson i started work on my CD digipak i have started of with typing in the track listing on the back and the title on the spine with the record labels icon and the serial number. I also created my own barcode which i have put on the back

I have started now to use powerpoint presentation to show all the stages that i go through whilst making my CD digipak so i will update onto my blog when i add to my powerpoint but i will only upload the powerpoint when its complete using slide share.
Now i have nearly finished my CD digipak I created a questionnaire for people to give feedback. Then I analysed all the questionnaires and made a powerpoint of these findings.

Peer Assessment of my Blog

Also in todays lesson our blogs were evaluated by our peers. This was done in order for us as individuals to set ourself targets to improve our research and planning. My target grade is a D and i got a D in my AS. I would like my research and planning to be at a level 4 but at the minute i think its at a level 3. To reach a level 4 i have set myself some individual targets. These targets are;
-I need to make my written communication skills better
-I need to add podcasts to make my blog more media rich
Naming Titles to my Blog Appropriatley

In todays lesson we went through our blogs and wrote down all our blog titles and the dates. We did this so that we were able to see how well are blog titles were showing what was actually in them. This will help us as if we need ot go back to check something we will now know what exactly is in each blog post by it's title.

Ancilliary Task: Music Magazine Advertisment
In today's lesson we did some research on music magazines. We were each given a music magazine at random and had to do a powerpoint answering the following questions:
What are the latest ABC figures?
What are the target audience?
Is the music magazine owned privately or by a large company?
And then we had to do a brief textual analysis of the front cover.

Textual Analysis of album advertisments from my chossen magazine.

This is Coldplay's advertisment for the new and upcoming album MYLO XYLOTO.
The main theme of this album advertisement is graffiti. I know this because the whole background is graffiti. The three main colours that stand out for me are pink, orange and blue. These colour's make the advertisement bold, bright and ultimately make it stand out from the crowd. This particular advertisement is situated on the back page of Q magazine. I did some research into how much it costs to put an advertisement in this position and it was around £11,000, this just proves that this is a prime spot which gets a lot of attention and is a good place to advertise an album. On the page over the top of the graffiti we have bold white bubble writing at the top is the bands name 'Coldplay' this is obviously on here so that people know who's album it is. The album title is then in the middle of the page in the same writing as the bands name but the size is much larger. This is because they want to draw attention to the album they are trying to promote.Underneith this is the release date October 24th, so they have got there advertisment out in plenty of time for people to pre-order it. At the bottom I can see they tell us where to buy there album from itunes. They put this on here so that we know where to get it.

This advertisment has a picture of the artist Florence on the centre of the page. The picture is like a mirror effect of her hugging herself with her eyes closed, she looks like she's dreaming. The background is black, i think they may have used black because the only real colour in the advertisment is orange which is the orange of her hair. I think they may have done this to make her hair stand out as this is one of her key features that represents her as an artist. So people will see her ginger hair and automatically think it's Florence and the machine. The only writing on the page is the artists name, the name of the album and the release date. They have kept information minimal because they want to get the key facts accross that are important. They have used two types of font on the page Florence and the machine is in one font and the album name and release dat is in another. This allows readers to quickly identify that the date is relating to the album and not the artists tour or something else.

This advertisment has more information on then any of the others i have looked at. The main colour scheme for it is green, in the background there is a picture that looks like a ceiling with lights but it also looks like a plane bottom which would explain the title high flying birds. In the front of the advertisement is a picture of Noel Gallagher with his arms crossed with a fierce face staring directly at the camera. It makes me think that this artist means buisness and he really wants you to buy his album. At the bottom of the page in white writing is information like debut album out 17th October, song names and also his official website. This information informs us a bit more on what we can expect from the album as it gives us some of the singles from the album. In the bottom left hand corner is also a barcode scan thing that can be used by an iphone or smart phone to acces exclusive content. This may gain some more readers as its new and can give them more information on the debut album of Noel Gallagher.

Looking at music magazines

I am doing some research into the type of magazine my artist Jessie J would appear in. I have found out that recently she appeared in Q, a magazine that features new releases of music, live concerts and interviews with new and popular young artists. Jessie J fits into the criteria so I assume that this would be the best magazine for her to feature and promote her album in.

Some reaserch into Q magazine. Q is a music magazine published monthly in the UK with an average of 80,418 copies sold per issue. Q was first publiched in October 1986, setting itslef aside from other music magazines with its monthly production and high standards of photography and printing. Originally it was going to be called Cue but it was changed to Q as the publishers (Bauer Media Group) thought that it may have got mistaken for a snooker magazine.Q's current editor is Paul Rees. Q's content includes extensive review sections featuring new releases of music, film and live concert reviews as well as radio and television reviews. Q also features approximately eight album advertisements which it classes as the best new releases of the past three months. most of the magazine is devoted to interviews with popular artists. The magazine often gives promotional gifts such as CD's and books. Usual features include Q50, where it lists 50 essential tracks of the month and Cash for questions where a famous celebrity answers questions sent in by readers. The magazine is closely linked with Glastonbury festival, producing a free daily newspaper on site during the festival.

The official video has been released
The official video for Jessie J's 'Who you are' has just been released. This is the story behind the song from the artist herself why she wrote it and how she plans to use it to help others.
Jessie J belts her heart out on her stunning new single "Who You Are" that is the title track of her debut LP. The song comes along with a brand-new video that perfectly emphasizes the intensity of Jessie's vocal performance. Set in a sparse bedroom without any visual distractions, Jessie faces the camera head on and shares her story about being true to who you are no matter what others tell you.
"Who You Are" tells a very personal story that Jessie lived through when she lived in Los Angeles to work on her music and her aspirations were hanging on a thread. "The most important thing in life is to be happy, but everything had become too business and sterile," she explains. "I really thought I was going to quit—not music, but the music industry. It wasn't easy."
Jessie explains that writing "Who You Are" helped her cope with her struggle. "Instead of giving up, I wanted to write a song for myself to keep me going," she explains. "I had this lyric "don't loose yourself in the blur of the stars' and I really want to write a song about never editing who you are to please other people."
She adds, "Even a lyric like "you left the real me on the shelf' that was my way of saying that my label wanted me to be someone who I was not. 'Who You Are' really saved my musical life. It saved my belief in being artist and now it is saving other people. I want people to have a song that they can listen to, have a cry for 3 minutes and then move on."
The video for the "Who You Are" perfectly captures that raw emotion that ends with a rainstorm that washes away the tears and sorrow to make way for a fresh new start. Watch the video for "Who You Are"

Lip synching
Today i am going to practice lip synching. This will give me the practice i need to make my music video look more professional. With the practice i will gain more knowledge and understanding of how to match lip synching to the music. I have never done lip syncing before so because i am going to be using lip syncing in my video i thought it would be a good idea to do some practice filming and editing of lip syncing.

Considering the Mise-en-scene for my Music Video
Mise-en-scene
Props-

Clothing-

For my main artist i will have her in clothes that Jessie J would wear but will alter them to make them unique so there not copied. Clothes that reflect the union jack maybe an idea as she is flying the flag for Britain in America. I also want there to be some chlothes with big meanings on that relate to the song so maybe a t-shirt with 'Dont lose who you in the blur of the stars' maybe an idea. For the accessories i need a watch which stands out a necklace that stands out and some rings which catch the attention of audiences.

For my guitarist i want him in smart but casual clothes so maybe a smart pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a scarf.Tuesday, 13 September 2011
Casting and Locations
Casting
For my music video i need one main person who will be acting as the artist. I have decided to cast Stephanie Smith as my artist, i chosen Stephanie because one she's female and two i think she can act the part really well as she has the same personality and taste as i want my artist to have.
For the part of the guitarist i have decided to cast Harry Wilkinson. I chose him because one he is male and i wanted a male guitarist, two he can play the guitar and three he has tthe look and personality that i would like my guitarist to have when he's performing in my video, he is very fun and energetic but can also be very composed and mature.
In my video i also have a dance sequence. For this i have already cast a dancer. The dancer in my video will be played by Taylor Kerly she has came up with a dance routine that she will be performing in parts of my video. I decided to chose Taylor because she does contemporary dance and also does street dance and i think she could bring something to my video that nobody else could, she can connect to the song and show that through her dance moves.

With my artist i will have her walking down the street at various times in the video i plan to do these scences on either avondale road, Almond road or Weekly glebe road. I have chosen these locations because they are all very similar and the roads near them are busy but not too busy so it will give it a sense of reality.

I also need 8 more people that will be holding boards up in various locations i.e place of work, school and even there homes. These people will be played by Callum Wilkie, Lucille Roberts, Harriet Nash, Jenna Wilkinson, to be announced.......
Locations
For my contemparory dance scene i will film it in the school drama hall. Ive chosen this location because i can have it blacked out with a single spotlight to make the dance have more meaning and emotion.

For my solo guitarist part i will have Harry play his guitar inside a normal house to also show reality.

Considering casting and locations
I am now at the stage where i can start considering my casting options for the parts i need. I will be needing a main character which will be the artist who is female. I will need a male guitarist and a female contemporary dancer these are the three main parts the extra parts i will need is a set of 8 people to hold boards up with words on.
For my locations i will need a variety of different street locations where my artist can walk down
